Some of the crucial questions on the authenticity between the two books by Chen Xi Yi (陳希夷), Zi Wei Dou Shu Complete Book (紫微斗數全書) and Zi Wei Dou Shu Complete Volumes (紫微斗數全集) lie in the differences in the transformations. One particularly problematic group lies in Geng (庚) Year’s transformation. In The Complete Book, Geng: Tai Yang Hua Lu, Wu Qu Hua Quan, Tian Tong Hua Ke and Tai Yin Hua Ji. In The Complete Volumes, Geng: Tai Yang Hua Lu, Wu Qu Hua Quan, Tai Yin Hua Ke and Tian Tong Hua Ji. Between Hua Ke and Hua Ji, & Tian Tong and Tai Yin, the orders seemed to be reverse. To add to the confusion, in another classical book Ode to Zi Wei Dou Shu (紫微斗數宣微) by Guan Yun Shan Ren (觀雲山人), Geng: Tai Yang Hua Lu, Wu Qu Hua Quan, Tian Fu Hua Ke and Tian Tong Hua Ji. This is only the beginning of the problems, particularly for Geng Stem.
With regard to the Geng: Tai Yang Hua Lu, Wu Qu Hua Quan, Tian Tong Hua Ke and Tai Yin Hua Ji style of Zi Wei Dou Shu Complete Book, similarity is found in the ZWDS components of Tie Ban Shen Shu (铁板神数). The other practices who followed this tradition are seen in publications from Hui Xin Qi Zhu (慧心斋主) and Chu Huang (楚皇). For the Complete Volumes type, at least when it comes to Geng: Tai Yang Hua Lu, Wu Qu Hua Quan, Tai Yin Hua Ke and Tian Tong Hua Ji, many important works follow this example from Fei Xing Shan Ren (飛星山人), 张開卷 (Zhang Kai Juan), to Liang Xiang Run (梁湘润), Bao Li Ming (鮑黎明). This type is the most popularly used type.
For the example from the Ode to Zi Wei Dou Shu, Geng: Tai Yang Hua Lu, Wu Qu Hua Quan, Tian Fu Hua Ke and Tian Tong Hua Ji, there are also many prominent users like Wang Ting Zhi (王亭之), Zhang Yao Wen (張耀文).
Here comes the further confusion. There seem to be more variations. I will list them below:
Geng: Tai Yang Hua Lu, Wu Qu Hua Quan, Tai Yin Hua Ke, Wen Qu Hua Ji (俞樾)
Geng: Tai Yang Hua Lu, Wu Qu Hua Quan, Tian Tong Hua Ke, Tian Xiang Hua Ji (陈岳琦)
Geng: Tai Yang Hua Lu, Wu Qu Hua Quan, Tian Fu Hua Ke, Tai Yin Hua Ji (正玄山人)
Geng: Tai Yang Hua Lu, Wu Qu Hua Quan, Tian Fu Hua Ke, Tian Xiang Hua Ji (潘子渔)
From all the above examples, there are no problem with the widely accepted transformations of Hua Lu and Hua Quan in the Geng Stem. However, with regard to Hua Ke, it seems like there are transformations with Tian Tong, Tai Yin and Tian Fu. And with regard to Hua Ji, there are transformations with Tai Yin, Wen Qu, Tian Tong and Tian Xiang. How can we really solve the mysteries of the correct Geng Transformations between Hua Ke and Hua Ji?
Points of considerations for investigations. There are many errors in Zi Wei Dou Shu Complete Books and Zi Wei Dou Shu Complete Volumes. But for the compiled Complete Volumes it seems to be more reliable and more popular amongst practitioners. Another point of reference is to infer the similarity of the Transformative Ten Stems between the 果老星宗 (Guo Lao Xing Zhong) and ZWDS practices. Tian Lu (天禄) and Tian Quan (天權) will be substituted for Hua Lu and Hua Quan. Below is a table of such comparisons:
From the above, based on the two systems, there are certain markers that give definite tag to the respective stars. With regard to this, Lian Zhen is quite likely Jia, and Tian Ji as Yi, Tian Tong as Bing, Tai Yin as Ding, Tan Lang as Wu, Wu Qu as Ji, Tai Yang as Geng, Ju Men as Xin, Tian Liang as Ren and Po Jun as Gui * although there are some awkward mismatches out of a very apparent pattern between the systems, which may indicate possibility of major errors in the ZWDS transformation lists (e.g. Mars Jia for Tian Liang Ren). In my opinion, a true to form revision of transformations may involve Yi Stem Hua Quan at Lian Zhen, Ren Stem Hua Quan at Ju Men, and Gui Stem Hua Quan at Tian Liang if we follow the Xin Zhong order with ZWDS. This possibility will be further investigated subsequently when time permits. From here, Wen Chang, Wen Qu, Zuo Fu, You Bi, and Zi Wei have indefinite stems. Under each transformations, there will be 10 Stems variations. Under Hua Ji, what is indefinite is Bing, Ren and Gui. Lets explore what might be the missing identity of the Hua Ji star under Geng Year Stem. If it is Ren, it might be Tian Liang, if it is Gui it might be Po Jun. Both Tian Liang and Po Jun are not from all the above examples. In this case, we are only left with Tian Tong/Bing. This means that there is a good likelihood that the last star that under goes Geng Stem Hua Ji is Tian Tong.
Another evidence. Even though in Zi Wei Dou Shu Complete Book, its order is Geng Stem: Tai Yang Hua Lu, Wu Qu Hua Quan, Tian Tong Hua Ke, Tai Yin Hua Ji. However, there are these writings therein in a chapter that explains the fortune/misfortune of Tai Sui periods in the respective palaces. Examples: Chou Year Chou Palace, Tian Tong and Lian Zhen: Bing Geng born natives will have scandals; Wu Year Wu Palace, Tian Tong: Geng year natives is not favourable. These are only few examples, but they all seem to point out bad problems for palaces with Tian Tong for Geng year born natives. This goes to show that the Tian Tong Hua Ke, and Tai Yin Hua Ji in Geng Stem in the book is either a mistake or a fraud, and confirms that in Geng Year, Tian Tong will definitely Hua Ji. Now, the only problem, is left to decide on how to determine the correct star for Geng Stem Hua Ke…
